VR Exhibition Planning App for Artists

Personal Project

In this personal project, as a team of 2 we developed a VR app in Unity for artists to not only plan but also experience their art in exhibition spaces. My focus was on designing the UI and ideation on user flows for the main features. Currently, we designed 3 features but will be adding more in later development

Using VR to address the challenges artists face in planning how their art will be displayed in exhibitions with little information about the exhibition space and atmosphere.

Navigate and interact with a digital twin of the exhibition space.

Artists can explore and interact with a digital twin of the exhibition space, allowing them to accurately plan and visualize artwork, and get a sense of the atmosphere.

Insert placeholders to test for position and size of artwork.

Preset 3D models allow artists to quickly test for size and position of artwork which is especially important for installations and other space-integrated pieces.

Bring your artwork into the VR environment

Artists can place into the exhibition space 3D models, 3D scanned artwork from any mobile app, and 2D artwork.

Present your artwork directly in the digital exhibition space

A streamlined "presentation - mode" allows artists to display their art directly in the VR environment along with explanatory text or images alongside the artwork.

Further Development

Features such as art placement and manipulation will be refined to allow for easy snapping to gallery surfaces such as walls and floors. Two dimensional work will also be supported at launch. Exhibi will continue in development and is slated to launch in beta late 2024.

Future plans are to add curator/gallery focused features for reviewing art submissions, as well as direct partnership with curators to create digital twins of their galleries. In addition, allowing for fully accessible digital exhibitions in the app.
